Screenings
Wellness screening: As pet owners, we want to do everything possible to maximize our pet’s quantity and quality of life. It may be tempting to skip your annual vet appointment if no vaccinations are due, especially if your pet gets easily stressed at the vet’s office, but a yearly wellness exam and laboratory testing is an essential part of keeping your pet healthy. Pets are exceptionally good at hiding early signs of illness, so it can be difficult for us to detect some diseases when they are most treatable. A recent data study by IDEXX evaluating 167,593 canine and 54,211 feline wellness profiles found clinically relevant abnormalities across all life stages. The research shows that regular testing can uncover potential issues in up to 40% of dogs and 60% of cats.
Wellness testing is a relatively easy and affordable way to ensure that veterinarians get the necessary information to provide pet owners with options that, in many cases, will improve the quality of their pets' lives. In addition, one of the benefits of wellness testing for young pets is establishing a diagnostic baseline. Knowing what is normal for a specific animal, and assessing trends as time goes on, makes decisions so much easier if the patient becomes ill or is experiencing vaguely abnormal symptoms.
