After serving in the US Army as a field artillery officer, where he spent some time jumping out of perfectly good airplanes. He then transitioned to pursuing his passion for veterinary medicine. Dr. Jennifer Huffman:
Dr. Jen was born and raised in a small town in northern Illinois and has always had at least one pet from the time she got her very first cat, Frisky, at 5 years old. After several years of grooming and managing a boarding facility she decided to pursue a degree as a veterinary technician. She graduated as valedictorian from veterinary technician school and fell in love with veterinary medicine. Dr. Jen worked as a licensed vet tech for 7 years and found herself always wanting to know and do more. That desire to know, learn, and do more for animals led her to make the decision, at 34 years old, to return to school to become a veterinarian.
Dr. Jen obtained her DVM degree at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, a decision which ultimately led to her career here at Coronado Animal Clinic. Dr. Jen graduated with highest honors in May 2023. After graduation she spent 3 months with her mentor in Illinois performing multiple ultrasounds daily to increase her knowledge base and skill at performing ultrasounds (abdominal and cardiac). She is thrilled to be able to add this diagnostic tool to the offerings here at Coronado Animal Clinic. In addition to ultrasound and surgery, Dr. Jen loves that she is in a profession that allows her the opportunity to make such a difference in the lives of animals and the owners who love them from their first puppy/kitten visit to regular preventative care, through any bumps in the road along the way and ultimately, if necessary, to helping with compassion and dignity to allow your animal to pass peacefully without suffering.
When she’s not at work, you’ll find Dr. Jen at home with her 5 dogs (1 that she chose and 4 that chose her as rescues) which include two 11 year old chocolate lab sisters named Kaya and Shelby, a 10 year old shih tzu mix named Bella, a 7 year old black lab mix named Wyatt and a 4 year old black mouth cur mix named Vince. If she’s not at home hanging out with her dogs you’ll likely find her at Disney World, working in her gardens or going for a walk or run to the beach from work.
