Dr. Hutchison brings a remarkable and diverse background to veterinary medicine. Before earning his DVM, he studied Finance at the University of Notre Dame and served as a US Army field artillery officer — including, as he puts it, some time jumping out of perfectly good airplanes.
He earned his DVM with honors from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998 and completed a one-year rotating internship at Hollywood Animal Hospital, gaining hands-on experience in emergency medicine, internal medicine, and surgery. He spent two decades practicing in the greater Orlando area before relocating to New Smyrna Beach in 2018, where he was fortunate to cross paths with Dr. Robert Leonard and take over Coronado Animal Clinic.
He is happily owned by his wife Tammy, and their household is expertly managed by their hound mix, Lucy.
Dr. Jen's path to veterinary medicine is one of the most inspiring stories you'll hear. Growing up in small-town northern Illinois with animals always by her side — starting with her first cat, Frisky, at age 5 — she spent years grooming dogs and managing a boarding facility before graduating as valedictorian from veterinary technician school.
After 7 years as a licensed vet tech, her drive to learn and do more for animals led her to return to school at 34. She graduated with highest honors from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in May 2023. After graduation, she spent 3 months training with her mentor in Illinois performing daily abdominal and cardiac ultrasounds — a skill she is proud to bring to Coronado Animal Clinic.
Dr. Jen is passionate about every stage of a pet's life — from the first puppy or kitten visit through every bump in the road, and when the time comes, helping families say goodbye with compassion and dignity.
